Based in the South of England at Sayers Common in West Sussex (between Gatwick Airport and Brighton) Friday Ad has grown into one of the leading classified publications in the UK, with 68 local editions published across the country.
That’s a lot of print. And to service this requirement, the Sayers Common ‘head office’ incorporates an impressive facility where the editions are printed – a staggering 4 million page impressions per month!

Hot work.

Or at least, it was before they called in Independent Heating & Cooling. The problem was obvious. The print works is a large space filled primarily with the huge Goss Universal Shaftless 128 page press. Apart from pumping out all that print it also pumps out a fair amount of energy in the form of heat; which does not make for the most comfortable working environment.

The trick was no install air conditioning to keep the machine minders cool – without having to cool the entire print shop – which would be too expensive both to install and run.

Our engineers came up with the option of ‘spot cooling’ by mounting 4 air conditioning units, designed to blow cool air horizontally at the areas peopled by the operators.

Air conditioning, but only where you want it!
Installation went well, working successfully around the workforce without a break in production, and, on commissioning, we were gratified that it performed exactly as our calculations indicated. Not a surprise perhaps, but it’s always nice to know that we got our sums right.
